Is counselling right for me?

Sometimes it can all feel like too much. When you're struggling to keep up with day to day pressures, you can wake up feeling anxious about the day, before it has even started. You can feel angry and frustrated at those around you, sometimes for the most insignificant things. You can stay awake at night replaying everything you feel you've ever done wrong and wondering when you'll ever feel at peace again. It doesn't seem to make sense, and you feel exhausted and frazzled just thinking about it.

Well, I'm here to listen and I'd like to be able to give you the space to piece this all together.

How does it work?

In counselling you get the chance to talk, and be heard, in a way that won’t be judged and may help you to piece together what’s going on. This works best when you can commit to a regular weekly appointment at the same time. These sessions will be 50 minutes in length and we will agree how best to hold these sessions; in person, online or over the telephone. I often get asked how long it will take for you to feel better and the honest answer is that change doesn’t happen overnight - it takes dedication and hard work. However, I will commit to regularly review our work together to ensure you’re getting everything you need out of your time.

Confidentiality. Trust.

At the heart of counselling is confidentiality. This means that everything you say to me is private and will kept between you and me enabling us to build a trusting relationship and enabling you to discuss anything on your mind. There are a couple of exceptions to this which we’ll go through in full during your initial consultation.

What form of counselling would work for me?

In Person

  • In person counselling will be held in COVID safe location in my home, the address of which I’ll share with you when you book your initial consultation should you wish to do this in person.

  • We would sit together in a quiet and comfortable space.

  • Some people prefer to be able to physically step in and out of the counselling space making it easier to separate out from the day to day.

  • Also if you don’t have a private space at home to take sessions online or on the phone this could be the best option for you.

  • This would require some travel to and from the counselling space which would be something to consider

Online

  • Online sessions happen over zoom and will require you to have access to a phone/laptop and have a strong wifi/internet connection.

  • You’ll also need a private space to take the session where you won’t be overheard by others.

  • I will manage emailing you your links to sessions and talking you through how to use the technology if you’re not feeling very confident with this.

  • Online counselling can be great if you are shorter on time or are unable to travel to sessions.

  • It isn’t always suitable for all types of difficulties you may be facing and this is something we would discuss in your initial consultation.

Telephone

  • Telephone sessions are held over the phone (no surprises there!).

  • They will require you to have access to a phone/mobile and have a private space to take the session where you won’t be overheard.

  • I will ask you to call me at the time of your appointment to ensure you are ready and set up to begin the session.

  • Telephone counselling can be great if you’re unable to travel to sessions or if you’re not comfortable with using technology.

  • It isn’t always suitable for all types of difficulties you may be facing and some people find it difficult not being able to see each other. This is something we would discuss in your initial consultation.

How much does it cost?

Counselling is an investment in you. Just like you’d pay a gym membership for your body for your physical health, you could see paying for counselling as investing in your mental health. For more information on my fees please click below.
